Don't forget to change your details with the Healthcare Library of Northern Ireland
On The Move?
Update your membership details with The Healthcare Library

If you are moving to a new location or post at the beginning of August as part of HSC Changeover Day, it is important to update your details with The Healthcare Library of Northern Ireland.

Updating your details will ensure a seamless service from The Healthcare Library especially when using the online request form or borrowing items. This will ensure that if the Library is posting books out to you, they are sent to the correct work address. The same applies to any books or articles requested from other libraries on your behalf.

You can easily update your details by accessing the ‘Change of Details’ form through The Healthcare Library website:

https://healthcarelibrary.qub.ac.uk/Membership/ChangeofDetails/

Once you have completed the form, click on Submit. When the Library has processed your change of details form, you will receive an email from us by way of confirmation.

As always, if you have any questions about your membership, please contact us by emailing: info@healthcarelibrary.qub.ac.uk or make contact with your nearest library branch.

Refurbishment Plans for The Healthcare Library of Northern Ireland at QUB Medical Biology Centre

The Healthcare Library of Northern Ireland at QUB Medical Biology Centre will be undergoing refurbishment during Summer 2021. To facilitate this work, the Library has been closed from early June and will reopen mid-September.

The refurbishment will result in several improvements for users:

  • Group study rooms will be increased from 1 to 5
  • 2 individual study rooms will be created
  • Reader spaces will be increased to 145, including 17 study carrels

During the period of closure, study spaces remain available at our other Healthcare Library branches, and at QUB McClay Library.

Print stock anticipated to be high in demand has been identified and is available from the McClay Library, Floor 1.  These items can be accessed as normal and borrowed using the self-service facilities in the McClay Library. Unfortunately no other stock will be accessible during the refurbishment.  Please check the library catalogue in case the text is available in another library branch or is available as an electronic book.

To gain access to the McClay Library please contact us to obtain a Healthcare Library of Northern Ireland membership card or download the QUB app from the Apple or Google Play Stores, then login using your @healthcarelib membership number and password. A barcode will be available on the app for you to scan and gain entry at the McClay Library turnstiles.

Keeping Up To Date
Current awareness bulletins from the Healthcare Library

We know it can be difficult keeping up to date with current research etc. Some of the specialist librarians provide a Current Awareness Service, whereby they regularly scan a number of key journals within a given specialty and then list the selected articles in an easily accessible format with direct links to the full text. These are emailed to the list subscribers, and posted on the relevant professional guide on the Healthcare Library website, either monthly or bi-monthly.  You can subscribe to as many or as few of these bulletins as you want.  To view and subscribe to bulletins, click on your profession below and follow any instructions that appear on the next page to open.

Bulletins by profession

If you have any questions, please email the relevant Specialist Librarian:

Medicine, Dentistry & Healthcare Sciences: Richard.Fallis@healthcarelibrary.qub.ac.uk

Social Work & Psychology: Hazel.neale@healthcarelibrary.qub.ac.uk

Customer Service Excellence Accreditation
The Healthcare Library of Northern Ireland celebrates

The Healthcare Library of Northern Ireland celebrates being reaccredited with the Customer Service Excellence (CSE) Standard for another 12 months!

The Healthcare Library of Northern Ireland has been successful in achieving the CSE standard each year since 2015 and this year we excelled in meeting the requirements again. Customer Service Excellence (CSE) is a national standard of the UK Government and ensures organisations put the customer at the heart of everything they do and adapt their services and facilities in line with customer needs and preferences. Achieving this award formally recognises our commitment to, and delivery of, customer service.

We are grateful to everyone involved in helping us achieve this standard, whether you are a customer, a partner in the service we provide or a member of library staff. When we have asked you to complete surveys or provide us with feedback, you have done this, and this has meant that we can use your feedback and comments as a driver for continuous improvement.

Achieving the Customer Service Excellence Standard each year helps to ensure that we not only maintain, but build on our successful performance, and keep our service to customers a priority.

Survey input
Customer Satisfaction Survey 2021
Consistent level of satisfaction since survey began in 2015.

A customer satisfaction survey was conducted from 15th March to 31st March 2021. Invites to complete the survey were sent out to a random selection of users so thank you if you were able to complete and submit a response.

Given the considerable challenge faced by everyone in the previous year, the high level of satisfaction and positivity from our users is very encouraging. In particular, the extremely high levels of appreciation and satisfaction with staff are rewarding.

The annual customer satisfaction survey is conducted across all user groups including QUB staff and students, AFBI users and HSC users of the Library. The response rate for the sample was 3.89% and overall responses show a remarkably consistent level of satisfaction since starting to run the survey in 2015.

Standard questions about overall satisfaction, fair treatment, Library environment, accessibility of resources, communication, accuracy of information and staff friendliness were asked. The final questions in the survey asked respondents to say what they liked best about the Library, and what would improve the Library.

Staff from across Library Services received 50 positive mentions and were the most commented on facet of the Library.

‘I use the service in CAH frequently. The staff are a credit to the service. Helpful, friendly and knowledgeable’.

‘Librarian Paul in Derry is wonderful, very supportive…He was very patient and spent time talking me through access to the articles which was really appreciated’.

The top area commented on for improvement was the availability of online resources, followed by library opening hours and difficulty in accessing online material.

Comments will be analysed further to examine where improvements can be made across Library Services. If you wish to provide feedback at any stage, please use our online feedback form.
